In Festejation, Grammy-winning director Edward Pérez crafts novel arrangements treating festejo simultaneously as high art and as a comfortable-as-denim dance style that anyone can get rowdy to with a pisco sour in hand.

Afro Peruvian Music

in

New York

Right where the sun-drenched dunes of a vast South-American desert collide with the salty surf of the Pacific Ocean, the Afro-Peruvian musical tradition was born. The churning of those waves can be heard in the percussion and the spice of the ceviche from those waters can be felt in the vocals of festejo, the Afro-Peruvian music and dance style dedicated to celebration. Festejation, paying tribute to this genre, has performed in festivals throughout the northeast and venues throughout New York City.

I have booked Festejation three times over the past few years at the Stowe Jazz Festival and each time, they have been the biggest crowd pleaser and most unique band we’ve had. Phenomenal musicians and SO much fun!
